Over the last 25 years, after completing US-based post-graduate training, Prof. Philippa Musoke has been an active clinician and educator. She has been involved in conducting perinatal HIV prevention and paediatric clinical trials, including the landmark HIVNET012 study which led to large-scale implementation of prevention of mother to child HIV transmission (PMTCT) services.

Her areas of research interest include elimination of vertical HIV transmission while maximizing women’s health; improving paediatric HIV and TB diagnosis and treatment.

She is also a Professor of Paediatrics and Child Health, School of Medicine -Makerere University, Kampala. She currently serves on both the National Institutes of Health (NIH)  IMPAACT and HPTN Network Scientific Committees and chairs the Ministry of Health PMTCT and paediatric treatment technical committees.

As of Dec 1st 2020, Prof. Musoke is a Co-PI for the JHU-Kampala Clinical Trials Unit and international vice chair IMPAACT network.
